Joana

Luxembourg & Portugal

As an activist and researcher, Joana is passionate about drug policy and human rights, and their background is firmly rooted in defending the rights of people who use drugs. Joanna is currently a PhD student in Development Studies, reflecting on the history of drug user movements and our struggles for recognition and justice. Joana is a member of the Executive Committee of EuroNPUD and coordinates local campaigns. Joanna also participates in European projects as a consultant. In practice, they co-organize and mobilize communities of women and queer people who use drugs and/or do sex work within the MANAS collective. They have previously worked as a community mediator at GAT Portugal and as a local coordinator at Metzineres in Barcelona. My work combines action research, co-production, and radical tenderness, prioritizing the voices of those most marginalized in the fight against prohibitionism and punitive approaches.
